Update on Detention Procedures for Middle and High School

We’ve made some small changes to how detentions are handled this year for Middle and High School students to help students take responsibility for their learning time. 

Students who receive a detention for tardies now have one week from the date of the infraction to serve it—either during a scheduled Middle School detention (Mondays/Tuesdays in M9) or by attending 30 minutes of teacher office hours with a teacher of their choice.

If a detention is not served within that week, the student will not be allowed to participate in After-School Sports or Activities the following week until it is completed. Students not in activities will be assigned lunch detention.

Detention is an opportunity to make up for lost learning time caused by being late to class. Our goal is to help students stay on track, build good habits, and use every minute of class productively.

Este año hemos realizado algunos pequeños cambios en cómo se manejan las detenciones para los estudiantes de Escuela Media y Escuela Superior, con el objetivo de ayudarles a asumir la responsabilidad por su tiempo de aprendizaje.

Los estudiantes que reciben una detención por llegadas tardías, ahora tienen una semana desde la fecha de la infracción para cumplirla, ya sea asistiendo a una detención programada en Escuela Media (lunes/martes en M9) o participando 30 minutos en las horas de consulta de un profesor.

Si la detención no se cumple dentro de esa semana, el estudiante no podrá participar en deportes o actividades extracurriculares la semana siguiente hasta completarla. Los estudiantes que no estén en actividades deberán cumplir su detención durante el almuerzo.

La detención es una oportunidad para recuperar el tiempo de aprendizaje perdido por llegar tarde a clase. Nuestro objetivo es ayudar a los estudiantes a mantenerse al día, formar buenos hábitos y aprovechar al máximo cada minuto de clase.
