Development and Global Inequality

National Council for Development Education
http://www.ncde.ie/

The National Committee for Development Education was established in 1994 under the auspices of Irish Aid at the Department of Foreign Affairs. It aims to promote and support Development Education in all sectors of Irish society through cooperation with organisations, schools and other institutions with an involvement in education and/or learning. Among the projects supported are development-related courses in the Equality Studies programme. The site contains information on NCDE activities, grants and resources and links to other sites.

http://www.oneworld.net/

'A meeting place for the International Community', featuring news, media, guides, education, 200+ partner organisations, gallery, action. "It's the world's biggest and best collection of multimedia material - that's text, graphics, audio and video - on development, the environment and human rights on the Web. It's also a partnership of many of the world's leading development agencies and charities." Excellent search facilities. A good place to start on oneworld issues.

Economic Inequality

Basic Income European Network (BIEN)
www.basicincome.org

The Basic Income European Network is an international network of people interested in the idea of Basic Income, the payment to every permanent resident of a state of a regular income without reference to means, availability for work, etc. Besides providing information on basic income, the site also includes BIEN's newsletters, which contain announcements and an annotated bibliography of work on basic income. BIEN-Ireland is the subnetwork of BIEN in Ireland, and is facilitated by the Equality Studies Centre.

Inequality, Poverty, and Socio-economic Performance
http://www.worldbank.org/poverty/inequal/index.htm

"This site aims to be a resource on: (a) the relationship between distributional dynamics, economic growth, and poverty reduction; (b) the effect inequality might have on social outcomes and behaviors; and (c) current discussions and methodologies that might be useful for operational and research work." Contains a lot of information, further references, abstracts, links.

The Panel Study of Income Dynamics
http://www.umich.edu/~psid/

The PSID is a longitudinal survey of a representative sample of US individuals and the families in which they reside. It has been ongoing since 1968. The data are collected annually, and the data files contain the full span of information collected over the course of the study. PSID data can be used for cross- sectional, longitudinal, and intergenerational analysis and for studying both individuals and families.

United for a Fair Economy
http://www.ufenet.org/

"United for a Fair Economy is a national, independent, nonpartisan organization that puts a spotlight on the dangers of growing income, wage and wealth inequality in the United States and coordinates action to reduce the gap. We provide popular education resources, work with grassroots organizations, conduct research, and support creative and legislative action to reduce inequality." Very interesting site with lots of ideas for activism and campaigns.

US Census Bureau
http://www.census.gov/

Lots of information about the US, including information on distribution of income and wealth. A good place to start is "Subjects: A to Z" at the bottom of the home page.
