PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION
The physical and health education program at ASA is a part of the total educational program that contributes mainly through movement experiences and course study which contributes to the total growth and development of all children. This includes individual and group activities that focus on the development of locomotor skills, manipulative skills, fitness, body awareness, along with wellness and responsibility. Students are also taught the importance of self-responsibility, team cooperation, and sportsmanship as part of the learning process. ASA students develop an appreciation for physical activities that they can continue with outside of school. 9th GRADE HEALTH EDUCATION GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW: This course is designed to allow students the opportunity to learn and understand the importance of overall health and well-being. Students will gain a clearer understanding of the different areas of health and how they can have a direct impact on their community, family and friends, and most importantly themselves. The outline for this course is geared towards the following units:
10th GRADE HEALTH/PHYSICAL EDUCATION GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW: The physical education class for high school is designed to provide a variety of opportunities for students to participate in physical education and to enrich their lives through physical activity, which is related to health and well being. Exposure to a broad range of activities representing different cultural backgrounds is provided so that students can have a greater knowledge of an appreciation for individual and team sports, as well as for recreational life-time activities. The activities are designed to meet physical, mental, and social developmental needs. Being an effective member of a group is a special emphasis for physical education classes, as are perseverance and learning to push oneself to achieve higher goals. Individuals are instructed through the cognitive and practice phases of learning a sport and hopefully will progress to the automatic phase, in which skills can be performed without concentrated attention, in sports of their choice. 11TH AND 12TH GRADE HEALTH/PHYSICAL EDUCATION GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW: In order for juniors and seniors to receive physical education here at ASA they must fulfill one of the following: 1. If you are going to receive P.E. credit by participating in the After School Sports Program, you must attend at least 10 practices (also includes games) for the quarter in order to pass. Any failure to do so will result in a failing grade. Remember that there will be a semester fee of GS.200.000 to be involved in the Sports Program. However, the school will offer an after school physical education class free of charge that will fulfill the requirement. The schedule for the class will be posted two weeks after the school year has begun (pending on the number of students who sign up). 2. If you are going to receive P.E. credit by participating in a gym/club outside of school, you must attend at least 10 sessions over the course of the quarter in order to pass with the following guidelines: A. Students must have a typed proposal signed by the Athletic Director to be approved and handed into the Athletic Office by the second week of school. This proposal must include the name of the gym or club, the type of activity you will be involved in and how many days per week, and the name and telephone number of the person who will be supervising you. B. Students must hand in an attendance sheet (with signature and telephone number of supervisor) and receipts once a month to the Athletic Director. Coaches will be taking attendance at practices and games to keep track of student attendance and to make sure you are keeping up with the requirement. |
