Our Commitment

We believe that every student has the right to learn and to express himself or herself freely. Music allows students to share their reality and vision of the world through a unique environment. Through music, students can express who they are, their ideas, and their creativity.

The study of arts leads to a new path: the path of creativity, sensibility and subjectivity. We desire students to learn to create, interpret and appreciate musical productions while integrating the latter in their everyday life.

Consider the following wish list of skills and attitudes required of job applicants obtained from the Internet (business people, not artists, musicians or other dreamers):

• ability to think clearly, critically, & logically

• ability to work together in teams effectively

• self-discipline

• enhanced imagination and creativity

• self-confidence

• the capacity to articulate ideas with style and clarity

• a commitment to excellence

• ability to problem solve and think "outside the box"

• ability to think and work independently

• ability to get along with people & understand other points of view- emotional intelligence.

All of the above skills and attitudes are learned through the process of making music. At ASA, we ensure that students have an opportunity to make music from pre-kindergarten to the upper grades because we feel important life-long skills are learned from this marvelous discipline.

We continually encourage students and guide them in their development through a high-quality music education program that is integrated with our school’s curriculum. We strive to share our love for music with the students, to awaken and nurture their creative spirit, and to encourage them to pursue music on their own terms.

Our Beliefs

Music grants all of us the means to celebrate and to preserve our diverse cultural heritages while exploring the realms of self-expression, imagination, and creation. The result: new knowledge.

Music grants us the means to challenge ourselves to surpass that which we once thought was possible, to strive for that which we may never reach.

Music grants us the means to work as a community, becoming responsible for others and becoming responsible to others. And revealing a synchronistic creation beyond our wildest imagining.

Therefore, every individual should be guaranteed the opportunity to learn music and to share in musical experiences such as:

The challenge of live performance.

The expression of one’s cultural heritage.

The awareness of the diverse cultures and life experiences around the world.

The pleasure of creative self-expression.

The challenge of critical thinking and analysis.

The pains and joys of being an active and involved member of a functioning musical community.

The pleasure of striving for perfection while simultaneously being aware that one cannot achieve that perfection, then realizing that doing one’s best and fostering the best in others is indeed that supposedly unattainable perfection.
