Various assemblies take place throughout the school year to recognize and celebrate the students who exceed in their academic performance.
Student of the Month
One student per grade in High School and two per grade (a boy and a girl) in Middle School are selected monthly as Student(s) of the Month. Being chosen for this honor encourages exemplary performance and strives to promote excellence throughout the student body. Students are selected more for their behavior and leadership than their grades. They are nominated by their teachers and then voted at a faculty meeting.
At the end of every quarter, an Honor Roll Assembly is held, at which students who have achieved above average grades are recognized, as well as those students who have demonstrated marked improvement. The certificates are given out as follows:
- All students achieving all quarter grades of 80% or better are on the Honor Roll.
- All students achieving all quarter grades of 90% or better are on the Principal's Honor Roll.
- Any student deemed by the grade level team of deserving special recognition for either significant improvement in behavior or academic achievement are recognized by their teacher.
School Year Awards Assembly
At the end of the school year an assembly is held to recognize individual students who have demonstrated significant dedication and achievement in individual subject areas. These students are chosen by their subject teacher and rewarded with a diploma and a medal. Teachers meet to choose the award winners, and coordinate with each other in order that awards are distributed judiciously among a wide number of deserving students.
Another way A.S.A. distinguishes its students who have achieved a minimum grade point average of 87% or 3.33 is by inviting them to be part of the National Honor Society. The purpose of this group is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of the American School of Asuncion.
