ASA's Visual Art Department philosophy believes that the most important part of Art Education is Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE), which includes art production, aesthetics, criticism and history. Each lesson consists of these four elements.

We believe that the creation process is just as important as the final product. Part of the production includes respecting each piece of artwork and each other. Every student should have a chance to learn, express themselves and be successful decision makers in the Visual Arts.

Our mission is that every student becomes a well-rounded life-long learner. We study the world around us and make connections between art history and cultures which implements physical, mental and emotional learning.

The art curriculum connects with the unit topics in the classroom curriculum when possible. We cover all Art Elements and Art Principles while learning various techniques, using different media and integrating art history.

Our program is based upon and every lesson incorporates the U.S. National Standards for the Arts. Resources used are posters, web sites, books, slides, magazines, and examples of the project being taught.
