Student Parent Handbook Introduction

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to the American School of Asunción. This handbook is designed to provide you with information concerning the various policies and procedures used at the American School of Asunción. Valuable background information is also included to help provide a greater understanding of our mission, our academic philosophy, and goals.

Please read this handbook carefully and keep it readily available for quick reference. It is important that you have a clear understanding of our academic philosophy and goals. The guidelines for day to day behavior and academic work are also outlined here for your information. If reading this manual does not adequately answer all of your questions, please see us for further clarification.

Our manual reflects what our expectations are of the community we serve. Remember that this manual is a “living document”. This means that there is information that is periodically updated and changed. New information and new policies or procedures will be communicated to you via our school’s Weekly Bulletin, which is sent home every Wednesday, and will also be available on our school’s web page (www.asa.edu.py) or in specific school-wide memos, including those sent by email to parents.

Our most important expectation is that each student will have success in our program. Our hope is that students will demonstrate this success through classroom achievement reflected in grades; through standardized testing performance; through involvement in interscholastic sports and student activities; and through personal involvement in a variety of community service projects that help to benefit the local and international communities. Most importantly, it is our hope that this success will be marked by their achievement of critical thinking, understanding, and belief in our school’s values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and excellence.
