SCHOOL DIVISIONS

The American School of Asunción consists of an early childhood program (Kinder) which includes Pre-kindergarten & Kindergarten, an Elementary School, Middle School and High School programs. While the school functions as a unit and adheres to a common mission and philosophy, each division recognizes the particular needs of its students.

Kinder provides an educational program that is developmentally appropriate for 4 and 5 year olds. A handbook is available which describes its curriculum and procedures in detail.

Elementary includes grades 1 - 5. The curriculum is similar to the best U.S. private and public schools. Curriculum areas include math, literature, language arts, science, social studies, computer, art, music, library, physical education, and Spanish language and Latin American social studies. Field trips and extra-curricular activities supplement content areas.

Middle School consists of grades 6, 7, and 8. The program recognizes, accepts, and responds to the intellectual and social needs of the early adolescent. Especially in conjunction with the upper elementary program (3 - 5 grades), lays the foundation for the college preparatory program in the high school. Curricular areas are integrated as much as possible to provide a challenging and stimulating learning experience.

High School includes grades 9 - 12. The high school follows a college preparatory program that challenges students to meet the highest standards of excellence and prepares them for study at U.S. and Paraguayan institutions of higher learning.
