HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework is an essential part of the learning process. It is the responsibility of the student and the parent to develop patterns of study at home. Each student is responsible for knowing his or her assignments. Agendas are given at the beginning of the school year for students to use to keep track of such assignments.

Due to the need for learning to be a skill that students can do independently and which can be evaluated individually, it is extremely important that students do their homework by themselves unless specifically instructed by teachers that the assignment needs to be done in a group. Parents should not allow students to do homework together, and should remind students concerning the dangers of copying or plagiarism (see Honor Code) which can result when two or more students work on an assignment together.

If a student misses homework due to illness or an authorized absence, it is the student’s responsibility to get their daily assignments and homework upon returning to school or before the authorized absence. If the absence exceeds 3 days, the student or parent may contact their respective counseling office to request homework assignments. Homework requests must be made 24 hours prior to the time that the assignments are picked up.
