University of Alabama Masters Program
The American School of Asuncion offers its faculty, parents and community university-level courses throughout the year. By offering graduate courses from the University of Alabama, ASA has been able to provide its staff with opportunities for renewing their stateside teaching credentials and for updating their educational expertise. With course enrollment open to English-speaking educators from the greater Asunción community, an overwhelming level of interest has developed and has created broad support for the twelve-year-old graduate program. The evolution of this masters degree program in Asunción began in 1990 as an ASA initiative to fulfill the professional development requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). During the past year, ten educators have completed their master of arts degree in elementary education through the University of Alabama's overseas graduate education program in Paraguay.
